McHenry Tree Lighting Ceremony at Veteran’s Memorial Park
McHenry holds a number of festive events during the Downtown McHenry Holiday Walk to usher in the festive season. Perhaps the greatest of these is the annual tree lighting in Veteran’s Memorial Park. More than just a tree lighting though, it featured horse-drawn sleigh rides around the perimeter of the park, kid’s crafts and Santa in the gazebo, a bouncy house, dancers, and choirs singing Christmas carols.
Thanks to the incredible weather, it was standing room only around the gazebo as many turned out for the festivities.
While there were long lines to see Santa and enjoy the sleigh ride, everyone seemed to be patient and enjoying the time out.
If you didn’t make it out for the tree lighting, you’re in luck Of course, we have some photos for your enjoyment below, but Veteran’s Park will be lit up nightly throughout the holiday season.
Don’t blink…perhaps the fastest tree lighting ever.
And now we just need snow.
And now we just need snow.
And now we just need snow.
While we didn’t make it in time for the tree lighting in 2021, we did enjoy strolling around the park to enjoy the lights. Check out that article and photos in Simple and Classic Display at Veteran’s Memorial Park.

My hope for McHenry Life is to create a resource and destination for the residents and businesses of McHenry County alike. A place where residents can discover new places to explore, fun events and ways to spend time, and then share those experiences with others. A place where businesses can connect with existing and potential customers, and not simply market their businesses, but share their own unique stories.
