Welcome to the Village of Fox River Grove, Illinois, residing in both McHenry and Lake Counties.
Even before becoming a village, the area grew as a popular getaway location, thanks to the train line into nearby Cary. The river location and a large picnicking and recreational area that was known as the Fox River Picnic Grove made it appealing to those looking to escape from Chicago for a while.
In 1919 it was incorporated, making it the ninth Village in McHenry County.
Fox River Grove still serves up some unique and interesting attractions like the Norge Ski Jump and Club as well as the stone, hand-built Bettendorf Castle.
