McHenry Life is a locally run business directory, events calendar, and online magazine. Our goal is to help you make the most of your McHenry Life!
How do I use McHenry Life?
Peruse and search our directory to find restaurants to try, stores to explore, and businesses that provide services you need. Our directory also has groups, clubs, non-profits, and other organizations.

Or enjoy learning more about local spots or activities in our Magazine and Guides!
Do I have to Join?
You don’t have to join. Our site is open and free to everyone to use. You can even subscribe to our periodic email newsletter without joining.
But it is free to join, whether you are an individual or a business, and there are some good reasons to do so.
- Save your favorites. When you “favorite” a Directory or Event listing, you can easily find it again in your list of favorites on your “Lifer” page.
- Honor your favorite businesses! Have a favorite restaurant, cafe, store, or even handyman? What about that one event you can’t wait for every year? What better way to honor them and show your support than by sharing your experiences on their listing page!
- Comment on articles. We’d love for you to share your thoughts on our articles. Unfortunately, to help battle against comment spam, we do need to limit comments to Lifers who are logged in.
- Add your organization or event. Are you a local business owner? Do you manage a McHenry County location of a larger business? Maybe you are a marketing director of a local business or charity, or an event coordinator. Whatever the case, we’d love to have you add your organization to our Directory or your event to our Event Calendar! And it’s free!
The Directory
Just like it sounds. Our Directory is where you can find local businesses and organizations. By local, we mean both those who are based in McHenry County as well as those who are headquartered elsewhere and just have a local physical presence, such as a store or restaurant.
We also define “McHenry County” as all of the cities and villages within the county boundaries, or those who span the county line.
Events Calendar
You guessed it, the Events Calendar is very similar to the Directory, except all of the listings on the calendar have a date connected to them.
Think of it this way…The Raue is a local business listed in the Directory, but specific performances at The Raue would be listed on the Events Calendar.
