Explore & Experience Johnsburg

Welcome to the Village of Johnsburg, Illinois. While one of the younger villages within McHenry County, the Johnsburg area was actually settled very early in the life of McHenry County. The area was settled by German immigrants hailing from the Eifel region of Germany in 1841. Still unincorporated, in 1990, residents feared being annexed by the much larger city of McHenry. An annexation agreement was worked out with the neighboring Village of Sunnyside, which had incorporated in 1956. So in 1992, the Village of Sunnyside annexed the Johnsburg area, but also renamed the new combined area as the Village of Johnsburg.
