The Village of Lake in the Hills, more commonly known as Lake in the Hills, or LITH, is home to the Lake in the Hills Airport, a single runway airport designated as an FAA reliever airport for Chicago O’Hare.
What began in 1923 from a few houses around Woods Creek Lake, grew over the years as a get-away retreat for Chicago vacationers, to year-round residents, until its official founding as the Village of Lake in the Hills in 1952.
While still primarily a residential community, Lake in the Hills has a prime commercial area along the Randall Road corridor and hosts the annual Summer Sunset Festival.
