It seems somewhat trivial and lacking to try to encapsulate the thanks and appreciation we have for our mothers into one day. But here we are! Ironically though, the greatest thing we can do often just comes down to saying “thank you” and “I love you.” But that doesn’t mean we should stop there!
Without a doubt, this is her day, but that doesn’t mean we can’t deposit a little extra into the “mom account.” And let’s be honest here…sooner or later, we’re going to need to draw on that account for some misstep or boneheaded thing. Fortunately, moms are also known for extending credit when needed.
So, what’s to do after you’ve taken care of the “thank you” and “I love you” bits?
Ideas for Mother’s Day
Really, anything goes. Just take a minute to think about what mom enjoys. Does she like being outdoors, or is she keener on being indoors? Does she have a particular hobby or passion that you could tap into? What does she like to do when she has a day to herself? Regardless of the answers to any of these questions, the most important part of the equation will be time spent with her.
And if you’re thinking, “when is Mother’s Day?” It’s Sunday, May 14th, which depending on when you are reading this, may determine how big a deposit you are making into the mom account…or how much credit you’re going to be needing.
We’ve pulled together a few options below, mostly brunches, and mostly on Mother’s Day itself, but there are a few others, so look closely. Remember that this can be a busy time, so consider tickets or reservations, even for those that don’t require it.
All information is subject to change and we always recommend contacting the specific locations to verify conditions and availability, especially those that are weather dependent.
Unconfirmed/past events are highlighted like this.

Even if mom’s not a full-on nature lover, she’d probably be thrilled to enjoy a nice day out spending time with the people she loves. That could be as simple as sitting on the deck, walking around the block, or strolling around a nearby park.
And if you’re looking for parks, we are fortunate to have a lot of outdoor spaces of all different sizes and varieties. In fact, we’ve written about a number of them. Check out some of our local park district friends…
