This year we finally made our way to Old Town Algonquin for the annual Miracle On Main, which features several festive activities before and after the main event, which is the lighting of the Christmas tree. Main Street, blocked off from traffic, has proven to be a great setting for this and other events. There was just enough chill in the air to set that holiday tone, but warm enough to enjoy being out for an extended period.
Miracle On Main was lit up for the festivities, with various holiday displays set up along Main Street. In addition to the large decorations, there were many displays set for photo opportunities, including a life-sized gingerbread display, a sleigh, Elf Yourself, and more.
There were also fun activities, such as the inflatable snow globe, petting live reindeer, riding the trackless train, or doing a little holiday shopping at the stores and vendors set up for the Merry Market.
Address: 2 S Main St, Algonquin, IL 60102
For those who prefer to be entertained, there was also live music and a live ice sculpting display.
Of course, the height of the night was the arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Claus and the lighting of the Christmas tree. We managed to squeeze in dinner at Cucina Bella without a reservation, but unfortunately, that meant we missed the official tree lighting. But there are still plenty of photos below. After the tree lighting, Mr. and Mrs. Claus sat for photos, and there were plenty of families lined up to get a couple of minutes with the big guy.
