Summer nights are better with popcorn and a movie in the park. Of course, it’s not as easy as checking the marquee—where they are still used—as you drive by the theater to see what’s playing.

Outdoor Movie Tips
To transition from a casual viewer to an outdoor cinema pro, preparation is key. Here is how to master the art of the park movie:
- The Seating Strategy
- Low-Profile Chairs: If you love sitting up front, please consider bringing “sand chairs” or low-backed seating so you don’t block the view of those behind you.
- The Heavy-Duty Blanket: Even if you have chairs, a large waterproof-backed blanket is essential for spreading out snacks or keeping your feet off the grass.
- Stakes or Weights: If it’s a breezy evening, use small weights or bags to keep your blanket from becoming a sail.
- Defeating the Elements
- The “Sunset Chill”: It might be 85 degrees at 6:00 PM, but by the third act, temperatures often drop significantly. Always pack sweatshirts or a shared “movie quilt.”
