I have to admit that this past Memorial Day, Monday 30th in 2022, may have been the first Memorial Day parade as well as remembrance ceremony that I have ever attended. And I actually went to two of them; this one in Fox River Grove and one in Huntley. While a few of my family members served in the armed forces, thankfully, none had to give their lives in that service. I do appreciate that other families haven’t been so fortunate.
Of course, this isn’t a holiday just for those who have lost someone directly, but a holiday for all of us to remember and honor the countless many who made the great sacrifice on our behalves, in defense of the freedoms and liberties that we hold so dear, and perhaps, sometimes take for granted.
The poignancy of this act is only heightened when we remember that this sacrifice is so often made over other lands, in support and defense of others.
I hope you had a wonderful and safe Memorial Day. If you didn’t make it out to any parades or ceremonies, then I hope you enjoy the photos here.

Following the parade, the Cary-Grove AMVETS Post 245 held a remembrance ceremony at the Lions Park baseball diamond following the parade. The culmination of the ceremony was the laying of the wreath and the honor guard salute to honor those who had fallen.
