Easter is around the corner, have you made plans yet? From Easter brunches to egg hunts, and of course photos with the Easter Bunny, our annual guide pulls together Easter events from all around McHenry County. And some events take place or require registration in early March.
Many of the events will provide an opportunity for photos with the Easter Bunny, though you may need to provide your own camera and take your own pictures. Many of these events are free but others are paid, so be sure to check the details for any events you may be interested in. Others may simply request donations. And in some cases, even if they are by donation or free, they may request or require pre-registration.
As most of these events will be held outside and may be subject to weather, dress appropriately and check for secondary dates.
The events below are listed by city and include general time details (be sure to check the specific details though as there may be specific time details for age groups, different sessions, etc.) as well as address information and a map. We’ll continue to add and update as we learn more, but always check the specific event source for the most up to date information.

Easter Egg Hunt Tips
Dress appropriately. Be especially aware if there has been rain where the hunt will be held and the ground may be wet or muddy. Also, if the area is open to cold winds. Dress warmly since you never know how quickly a hunt may start.
Bring a basket. Most hunts won’t provide a basket or bag, so be sure to bring one.
Arrive early. Hunts may start on or close to the starting time listed, so better to be a little early than miss it.
Listen to the instructions. Egg hunts usually have a few rules, such as boundaries for age groups, when each group starts, and sometimes limits on how many eggs per participant.
Sportsmanship is key. This can be a great teaching opportunity to focus on having fun, encouraging fair play, and respect for others, especially younger children.
Be respectful of the property. This can also be an opportunity to teach kids about general respect for behaving on someone else’s property. Remind them not to climb trees or trample on flower beds.

Tips for Photos with the Easter Bunny
Prep your little ones.: A well-rested and fed child is more likely to be happy and cooperative during the photo.
Coordinate outfits. While matching outfits isn’t required, choosing colors that complement each other can elevate a photo from snapshot to portrait!
Photos before the hunt. If you are getting photos at an Easter egg hunt event, arrive early and try to get the photos before for hunt if you want to avoid grass stains and untucked shirts.
Capture candid moments. While posed photos are nice, candid shots often capture genuine emotions and laughter, making the picture even more special.
Be patient and understanding. Meeting the Easter Bunny can be overwhelming for young children. Give them time to warm up and adjust to the situation.
Respect the photographer. Many photo opportunities are self-taken, but if you are at an event with an actual photographer, give them space to work. Don’t be distracting children with your own photos while the photographer is trying to take theirs.
Self-photos. Taking your own photos? Get down to eye level with the child, creating a more natural and engaging photo.
Capture multiple shots. Don’t be afraid to click the shutter a few times to increase your chances of capturing that perfect smile or candid moment.
