The McHenry County Skatepark Guide is a resource designed to foster the local skate community. We encourage you to use the guide to discover new parks or revisit old.
Speaking of old. I still remember my first skateboard. It was sky-blue plastic with barely enough room to stand on it. That was followed by another blue one, but this one was an aluminum board and was a little bigger. Nothing like today’s boards though.
And at least in the Midwest, as far as I knew, there were no skateparks because they hadn’t been created yet! But we used to put a broom or a pole across two boxes or buckets to jump over. My how times have changed! On a sidenote…my hometown of Des Moines now features Lauridsen Skatepark, the largest open skatepark in the US, at over 88,000 Sq. Ft.
McHenry County may not have anything at that scale, but we might have a few more than you thought. Below you will find a list of skateparks, broken out by city and village. Each listing includes the address and a map, as well as contact information and where we have it, a link to the park host’s page.
Many skateparks also allow rollerskaters, rollerblades, scooters, and even BMX bikes in addition to skateboards. Please double check with the specific skatepark rules though.
All information is subject to change and we always recommend contacting the specific locations to verify conditions and availability.

Park Etiquette
- Observe the Flow: Watch how others navigate the park and avoid cutting them off. There’s usually an unspoken order to lines and runs.
- Respect the Lines: If someone’s waiting for a ramp or obstacle, wait your turn patiently. Don’t snake!
- Call Your Line: Let others know where you’re headed, especially before dropping in on a ramp or grinding a ledge.
- Be Considerate: Don’t hog obstacles. If you land a trick first, take a quick roll away and let others have a go.
- Share the Space: Large groups can take turns occupying features. Be mindful of the number of riders using an obstacle.
- Help Out: If you see someone fall, lend a hand (if it’s safe) and offer encouragement.
