Story: The McHenry County ECO Farm recently received approval to begin operation as a regenerative farm with not-for-profit status (as a 501c3 organization). An ecological farm, or ECO farm, provides for sustainable agricultural practices and environmental stewardship. It is an effort to grow food in a way that preserves the soil, air and water needed to nurture it. An ECO Farm prioritizes the health of the area where food is grown by utilizing practices and techniques that use Earth’s resources in healthy and conservation-focused ways. Current goals for the group include identifying and purchasing a suitable property, building the key stakeholder list for community outreach.
