Welcome to the McHenry Life guide for live music in McHenry County. From multi-day music festivals to one-off concerts, farmers markets to 4th Friday Art, or just a night out for dinner or drinks, McHenry County has a lot to offer, and nothing beats the energy of a live performance.

We know that finding the perfect spot for weekend tunes—whether it’s an acoustic set on a cozy patio or a full rock show under the stars—can sometimes feel like a game of chance. That’s why we are thrilled to introduce our newest Guide to Live Music Events Around McHenry County.

This isn’t just a list; it’s your definitive curated resource for local sound.

What’s in the Guide?

Here is a taste of what you can expect to find:

Summer & Fall Concert Series Roundup: When the weather turns nice, it’s hard to beat an outdoor concert! From Crystal Lake’s Lakeside Festival, Lake in the Hill’s Summer Sunset Festival, McHenry’s Pearl Street Market Concerts, to Huntley’s Summer Concert Series on the Square, and so many others, you won’t miss a single sunset beat.

Local Brewery & Distillery Beats: We hope to also feature weekly lineups at local breweries or distilleries.

Music on the Menu: Not every music outing has to be a festival or even the primary purpose. Sometimes you just want to find restaurants, cafes, and pubs that feature regular live entertainment to complement your food and drink.

Historic Stages & Indoor Venues: When the weather turns, head inside to venues like at the historic Raue Center, The Dole, and Woodstock Opera House for premier touring acts and intimate listening rooms.

Got the Beat?

The most powerful part of our guide is that it is integrated directly with our local community Events Calendar. This means it is a living, breathing resource that gets better every day.

This is where we need your help: We know we don’t know every open mic night or last-minute acoustic show. Help us make the ultimate guide to live music in McHenry County! Don’t see a performance or event that you think should be in the guide?

Are you a musician? List your upcoming McHenry County gigs (for free!) in our calendar to ensure your fans know where you’ll be.

Do you own or manage a venue? Whether you’re a coffee shop, restaurant, a pub, Parks & Rec, or a festival, adding your live music events to McHenry Life ensures you are reaching an audience that is actively looking for things to do.

Are you a music lover? When you find a great show that we missed, you can submit it! Use our “Add Event” feature (you’ll need a free Lifer member account first), and help us build the definitive local music database.

And just like all of our other Event listings and Directory listings, Basic listings are Free.

Requirements? To be included in the Live Music Guide:

  • Event must include live music (we’ll also take DJ’d events).
  • The live music does NOT have to be the main purpose of the event, just part of it. Be sure to mention it though if you submit an event so we know to include it here.
  • Event does NOT have to be categorized as a Live Music event (see point above).
  • Event can be held anywhere within McHenry County, or takes place in a village that spans the county border. In this case, the event location must be within that village, but can be physically outside the county line.

Stop spending hours searching multiple feeds and websites. McHenry Life is ready to show you the best live music this county has to offer!

Concert Tips

Attending live music events is one of the best ways to experience McHenry County, but a little preparation goes a long way. Whether you’re heading to a casual brewery set or a large-scale festival, or whether you spend every weekend soaking in the tunes or haven’t been to a concert for ages, here are some pro-tips to make the most of your experience:

  • Check the Venue Rules: Are coolers allowed? What food and drink items are allowed, if any? Are chairs provided, or do you need to bring your own?
  • Download or Print Your Tickets: Don’t rely on spotty cell coverage at the gate. Save tickets to your Apple/Google Wallet or take a screenshot.
  • Verify the Time: Check the venue’s social media for “Set Times.” Remember, the “Doors Open” time is usually an hour before the music starts, but that can vary by venue and event.
  • Scope Out Parking: What parking is nearby? Free or paid? Is there alternative parking and shuttle service?

  • Clear Bag Policy: Most larger venues (and many smaller ones) now require clear bags for security. Keep a standard 12″ x 6″ x 12″ clear tote or a small fanny pack on hand to avoid being turned away at the gate.
  • Ear Protection: Modern concert-grade earplugs reduce the volume without muffling the sound. They are a game-changer for preserving your hearing while actually making the music sound “cleaner.” Making sure you can enjoy future concerts…doesn’t get much cooler than that!
  • Portable Power: Your battery will drain faster than usual as your phone searches for signal (bonus tip: unless you have access to the local network, turn off WiFi) in a crowd or records videos. Bring a compact power bank.
  • Cash & Card: Some vendors, food trucks, and even venues may only accept cash or may have gone completely cashless.
  • Hydration: Bring a sealed bottle of water (if allowed) and/or an empty reusable water bottle (if allowed).

  • The “Sunset Layer”: Even in the middle of summer, the temperature near our lakes and open spaces can drop once the sun goes down. Always have a light flannel or hoodie tucked in your bag or tied around your waist.
  • Closed-Toe Shoes: Even for “chill” acoustic sets, avoid flip-flops. Between uneven grass, gravel parking lots, and the occasional stepped-on toe in a crowd, your feet will thank you for wearing sturdy sneakers or boots.
  • Sun Prep: If the music starts before 6:00 PM, a wide-brimmed hat is better than an umbrella (which usually blocks other people’s views and is often banned). And don’t forget the sunscreen, even on overcast days.
  • Go Waterproof: If allowed, bring a waterproof blanket. Not just for sitting or laying on if the ground is wet, but extra protection from rain, sun, or wind.

  • The “Buddy Spot”: Cell service can be spotty at crowded festivals, not to mention the chance of losing your phone. As soon as you arrive, pick a physical landmark (like a specific food tent or “the big oak tree”) as a designated meeting spot if your group gets separated.
  • Be a “Live” Fan: It’s tempting to record the whole show, but the glow of your screen can be distracting to those behind you. Record your favorite chorus, then put the phone away to actually feel the energy of the performance. This of course assume that recording isn’t prohibited.
  • Respect the Opener: Arrive early to catch the opening act. You never know when today’s opener could be tomorrow’s headliner! Plus, it’s the best time to grab a good spot and a drink before the lines get long.

My hope for McHenry Life is to create a resource and destination for the residents and businesses of McHenry County alike. A place where residents can discover new places to explore, fun events and ways to spend time, and then share those experiences with others. A place where businesses can connect with existing and potential customers, and not simply market their businesses, but share their own unique stories.
