How To Search McHenry Life

Sometimes you have to roll up your sleeves and just dive in head first. There are a couple of different ways to search on McHenry Life. We’ll walk through some quick examples below to help you determine the best way to find what you are looking for.

McHenry Life is primarily broken up into two areas:

  • Magazine content (and everything else that doesn’t fall under Listing content).
  • Listings content (i.e., Business Directory listings, Event listings).

Basic Search

Not sure which category a business would be listed in or wanting results for all mentions of a business (e.g., directory listing, event listing, and any magazine articles)?

The best way to search in this case is through the Basic Search. Just click on Search above in the navigation at the top of any page and enter your search terms into the Basic Search.

Pros:

  • Broad search across the entire website
  • Simpler to use

Cons:

  • No refinements or filtering of results

Listings Search

Want to just search within the directory for a business or the calendar for event listings? The Listings Search is the way to go and it’s the same for business as well as event searches.

The Listings Search also allows greater refinements to narrow and filter your results:

  • Can search by a business name…whole name or just part of the name.
  • Don’t know the name? Search using related keywords.
  • Search by address to find businesses in that area, listed by proximity.
  • Search based on refinements, like “kid-friendly,” to filter the results to those that meet your criteria.

Listings Search can be found on the homepage, city pages, and within the Directory and Events sections.

Pros:

  • Search filter refinements
  • Can include location information

Cons:

  • Only searches directory and events sections
  • Specific to the chosen category (e.g., Dining & Entertainment, Shopping, etc.)
  • Too many refinements can eliminate all results
  • Location may be imprecise, based on cell tower location, Internet provider substation or distribution point
Happy searching!
