My husband and I love this place. He is a margarita aficionado and has declared the Mango margarita at Cantina 52 the best in McHenry county, and that is saying alot since he has tried just about every Margarita in the county.
It is our every Thursday night place since we like to take advantage of the Happy Hour on Thursdays. We pair that with awesome tacos. I always have the spicy shrimp and they are simply wonderful. Just the right amount of shrimp and a touch of spice with the yummy sauce they put on them. My husband has the gringo and the brisket taco and raves about them every time.
Since we are there every Thursday night, you can imagine that we love this place and it is a wonderful addition to the downtown Crystal Lake area.
Excellent lunch and a great addition to downtown Crystal Lake.
Fantastic chips and salsa, although a little larger salsa bowl would be nice. I had a Herbivore vegan chorizo taco which was excellent! And Spicy Shrimp taco… packs a kick and really tasty.
Jill had the fish tacos, which may have been the weakest link… she said it seemed a little fish-sticky, but that may come down to whether you prefer fish tacos with breaded fish or not.
We both loved the black beans as well… I highly recommend eating them like a dip with the chips!
Drinks-wise, my traditional Cantina 52 (I think it was called) margarita was perfect and Jill enjoyed fancy margaritas… they were a little smaller so she had a couple to my one.
Speaking of quantity… while they feature “small plates,” they aren’t skimpy and/or overpriced for what you get, which is much appreciated!
Nice atmosphere. Might be a little loud when it gets busy.
Will definitely be returning!
